Maybe you have created a business plan and it just didn’t work out for you.


You probably put things on paper, made the plans yet nothing came out from that. Either you started off great and then slacked off or you didn’t execute the plan the way you envisioned yourself to do it. Then you just started resenting the time you spent creating that business plan in the first place. 


I remember when I was in college, (just a few years ago). I took a business class. And the first thing they asked us to do was to create a 5-year business plan. I went ahead and created a long detailed business plan that included my mission, vision, etc.


But one of the things that mattered most for me in that business plan was the actual marketing part of it. And I’ll tell you why in a moment. 


See when you’re a big corporation having a business plan is so crucial. Especially if you’re looking to have board members or big loans to grow the business.


But when you’re a one-stop-shop, In other words, a small business owner. You really don’t need a big business plan. What you really need is a marketing plan. Because as a small business owner your one and only goal should be to make a profit. Therefore everything else other than the marketing part is irrelevant, especially if you’re in the beginning stages of your business. 


Planning things out at the beginning is the best thing you can do for the success of your business. When you fail to plan, you fail to make decisions ahead of time. And when you’re confronted with 3, 4, or more than 5 decisions in a day you will get overwhelmed, hence you will increase your cortisol level and will be unable to make clear decisions then.


But here’s the thing. When you make your plan for your business. Your primary focus should be. How can I become profitable? You can’t think about scaling when you haven’t done the first step to be able to scale. Which is to make a profit!


Now, you may be asking but how can I know what will make my business profitable? 


The only way to make your business profitable is simply through MARKETING. 


And in order to be successful within your marketing, you first need to make a MARKETING PLAN. But not just any marketing plan. A plan that can work for you. A plan that can be so customized to you, that is so simple to execute and follow through on. 


The mistake we often make at the beginning of our business is trying to do marketing the way other people do it. Trying to execute at a level of a 5 figure business when you haven’t gotten there yet. 


We create these unrealistic expectations of what it should look like to be a profitable business. But we don’t stop to look at what can truly work for us, in this stage and season of life. 


We also do this other mistake of thinking that as business owners our life should be separate from our marketing. And that we should be able to work around our marketing plan when it should be the other way around. 


Your marketing plan should work around your life. 


For example; if you’re a mom. Maybe you got 2-3 kids or maybe you just have one kid like me. Let’s say you also have a full-time job, and you’re working towards making this new business profitable. 


You might think that in order to be profitable. 


You should be…. 

  • posting every day on FB groups, 
  • blogging once a week, 
  • Do IG stories. 
  • Creating video content or going live. 
  • You should be on TikTok at least 2 times a day, 
  • oh and don’t forget the new reels. 
  • Wait, you should also have a podcast too. 
  • Get featured on other people’s podcasts… 


…and the list goes on and on!


So here you are creating an unrealistic plan that will never be executed because it’s simply not possible because now, your kids need your time. There are doctor’s appointments to show up for, daily school runs, and unexpected tantrums that just derail the perfect thought-out marketing plan you had.


And this my beautiful friends is why it’s taking so much effort to grow your business.


When in reality you could just have a marketing plan that works for you. A marketing plan that works around your current state or season of life, and that is so simple to execute..
